Pilgrimage 500

Fifth Centenary of Angela’s Holy Year Pilgrimage to Rome

1525-2025

Jubilee 2025: Pilgrims of Hope

In 1525, St. Angela Merici, the intrepid pilgrim of hope unseen, joined a small cohort from Brescia traveling to Rome for the Holy Year. Beyond the innate challenges of pilgrimage, the journey traversed a plague-ridden countryside and the volatile landscape of warlords and sectarian strife. Immersed in the communion of saints as she visited the holy sites in Rome, a chance encounter allowed Angela an audience with Pope Clement VII.  Graciously declining his invitation to remain in Rome, with his blessing she returned to Brescia.

On Christmas Eve 2024, Pope Francis opened the door to Jubilee 2025 which will conclude on Epiphany in 2026. For Ursulines, this Holy Year inaugurates an Angeline Decade, 2025-2035, to culminate in the 500th Anniversary of the Foundation of the Company of Saint Ursula.

Following the 2022 North American Ursuline Convocation, we expanded this virtual platform to support our shared reflection and celebration.  The 2022 Challenged and Changed for Our Times virtual pilgrimage continues to be available on this website. Making the Way by Walking....

When pilgrims go on pilgrimage, they traditionally go from station to station. The 2022 “Challenged and Changed For Our Times Pilgrimage traverses 6 Ursuline stations: from Angela’s Italy to our Canadian family at Brescia University College in Ontario, on to United States Congregations in Youngstown and Louisville, westward to the Navajo Nation, and culminates in Mexico. The Angela Retreat offers opportunity for reflection in the midst of the challenges of our time.

Join us, for together we make the way by walking….
